The stairs are grand only in appearance. Once you're on them they feel rickety as hell. But, there is definitely noise coming from up here, so you follow the sound. The second floor landing has several doors, but there's light coming from the door directly opposite you. A greenish-yellow rectangle that can only mean one thing: electricity. "Hello?" You call out. "I got caught in the storm." You look down at your wet and muddy clothing. "I know I look terrible, but I'm just looking for a little help? Do you have a towel and a phone I could use? My car's just down by the highway..." You trail off as you enter the doorway of the large bedroom. You're stopped short by the terrible smell emanating from the huge bed. It was definitely human at one point, but now the sweaty mound of fleshy goo is more nightmare than person. "Hello?" You hold your breath. There is no movement from the bed just an odd, rhythmic gurgling, the sound is nothing like breathing, and is not unlike a dirty fish filter. You can see a small radio on an ancient nightstand, and worst of all possible noises, it's tuned to a country station. Looking around, you see a land-line phone cord snaking across the room. You follow it to a small chair next to a large window overlooking the front yard. You can almost see your car from this point. You inhale through your mouth, silently wishing you'd stayed with it.
Picking up the phone, you can hear the dial tone, the sound itself sounding like salvation. You thrill for a second, before dialing. Who do you call first? The person in the bed is clearly in need of some assistance, but your favorite wish at this point is dry shoes far away from here. Without any further hesitation, you begin to dial.
